Today kicks off my first ever One Room Challenge and I’m beyond excited! We moved into our 90’s home in October of 2020 and had never seen what the backyard space looked like when the weather was nicer and BOY does it need help! The deck is practically falling apart and the lack of flowers & greenery makes my heart sad! We’ve decided to put all our effort into fixing it up over the next 8 weeks and transform our backyard into a beautiful, cozy, outdoor oasis for us to enjoy this summer!

We had big dreams of knocking out the deck completely and putting a concrete pad in instead, as it would’ve made the space look much larger and open it up! (It’s a small backyard space). Unfortunately, it’s not in the budget for this year. So we’re tackling a deck refresh to make it last a few more years, doing some DIY’s, planting a garden, and adding some gorgeous furniture to make the space feel like ours!
Here is my moodboard for the space. I want it to feel bright and airy, with a lot of natural elements and textures added. Clearly I love wicker!… & cement! Those are the colours I’m pulling from, some whites, grays, and neutral browns/beiges with a lot of greenery. I’m so happy with how it looks & hope the actual space turns out this good!!

This is what we’re working with! It’s a bit of a mess & we’ll have to replace a few boards as they are rotten, but I think it has a lot of potential. The privacy screen is the most rotten so that is what we will be tackling first! I also have a few other DIY ideas that are budget friendly that I won’t be sharing just yet!
THE BEFORE:

Over the next 8 weeks our goals are to:
- Stain the deck a solid colour
- Build our own privacy screen
- DIY some old pots with a cement look
- Build a post to add string lights throughout the space
- Purchase a sectional, egg chair & fire table
- Plant a herb garden & create a raised bed
- DIY an art piece with drywall compound
- DIY a bar cart
- & more!!
