Cheltenham Badlands, Caledon Ontario

HIDDEN GEM LESS THAN 1 HOUR
FROM TORONTO

Everything you need to know about the Cheltenham Badlands in Caledon Ontario

Looking for something new and exciting to do outdoors? We recently discovered this amazing hidden gem near Toronto called the Cheltenham Badlands! We thought badlands only existed in Canada out in Alberta! It was truly breathtaking looking at the beauty of nature!

WHAT ARE “BADLANDS?”

“Badlands” is a geologic term for an area of soft rock that has turned into a rolling landscape of rounded hills. They show a reddish colour due to the iron in the rocks. They are basically a form of clay easily eroded by water.

LOCATION OF THE BADLANDS

Located in Caledon, ON, and easily found on Google Maps! There is paid parking at the site. You can actually see the Badlands driving up the road from your car!

HIKING TRAILS AT THE BADLANDS

We only went for 1-1.5 hours! Starting at the parking lot, you can follow a 10 minute trail that leads you to the Badlands. Very easy hike! This is the map if you want to continue on and do the more strenuous hikes. The area is gorgeous so we definitely will be returning when the weather is warmer to check out more of this region!

Trail Map of the Badlands. Great for hiking the short or long hike.

HOURS OF OPERATION

The Badlands are closed during the winter season from November – April. They will reopen in April 2020 and run 7 days a week from around 8am to 8pm. You can check openings here!

CAUTION

There is a new boardwalk built as they are trying to not get people to step onto the Badlands to preserve the grounds. We have heard they are starting to be more strict with these rules, and have employees monitoring it, but nobody was there when we went so we risked it! We are all about preserving the land and only took a few steps out!

BELFOUNTAIN CONSERVATION AREA

While you’re in the area, definitely check out the Belfountain Conservation Area – It is stunning with an amazing suspension bridge and waterfall! Entry is $5.75 for adults. To find out more information about this conservation site, click here!

To sum up, if you have any questions about this area, definitely send us a message! It’s worth the drive, and looked so breathtaking when we went during the peak fall months when the leaves were changing colours!
